If its unspoilt rivers you like then this section of the River Trent above Stoke Weir and lock at Burton Joyce is the place for you yards and yards of quiet, tranquil, pegs with absolutely no one on the other bank.
The river varies in widths, and some areas are not cut out and you will have make your own peg, as with most of the Trent it used to be match fished so we have decided to leave this area unspoilt and allow members to make their own pegs further apart and virtually where they wish.

Please don't hack the undergrowth away more than is necessary and be aware that the hard core track along this section is in fact a bridle/walk way and members fishing here must not obstruct the track and park their vehicles and bivvy up at either side on the grass ( which is flat enough to do so, it used quiet alot with walkers with dogs etc, so be polite remember you represent the club!

The stretch can be got to via the stoke lock entrance and then taking a right turn just before the car park at the lock and follow the track around the lock keepers house (please remember to close the gate every time). It will be quiet sticky at the wettest times as you actually drive around the farmers field at some points,so a visit before hand is advisable. The section is really only suitable for normal type vehicles ie small cars and vans and not suitable for the larger vans and camper vans. So again, visit before you fish is advisable to check vehicle access before you go to fish.

Directions

From Burton Joyce village take the Station road turning opposite the small newsagent, go accross the Burton Joyce level crossing and drive along our Road day ticket stretch to the pub.

Just past the pub you will see a small island/roundabout with the access gate to our Ferry Field stretch, Locked with Ashfield Key  go through the gate and follow the trent up about a mile to the lock itself.
When parking at the lock have respect for other vehicle users and especially the resident lock keepers house and please dont obstruct the wheelie bin area (Signposted).

Be very quiet when entering/ exiting hear and take extreme care when crossing the actual lock gates taking care to close the small wooden gates after you. Fishing on the island is only from the boat ramp and gravel area and NOT from the high wall or bull nose or into the lock itself.

Ashfield members do have permission between October/ April to fish the concrete boat mooring at the entrance to the lock this is signposted, and can be accessed via steps at each end. We also have the same ruling on the boat mooring above the lock between these times.

To get to our other stretch above the lock as you cross the cattle grid near the lock turn right just before the carpark and follow the grass track around to a gate (Ashfield Key) and follow the track around the field and up onto the trent bank where you can drive along a cinder track and park behind you peg all along the stretch all the way around the bend.
